Laurie Kirkegaard

Co-Owner & Principal

Laurie’s passion is coaching and helping clients to rethink their values and motivational visions in order to achieve higher-level goals. Throughout her career, she has inspired not only client board members and executives, but also visionary philanthropists to achieve aspirations.

  • Laurie has 38 years of executive management in higher education, healthcare, and human service/cultural organizations as both a consultant and practitioner. She has personally directed 24, multi-million capital campaigns and has provided counsel, coaching and training to over 200 organizations globally. Early in her career she served as the:

    1) Executive Director of Development, Alumni Relations and Government Affairs at Rockhurst University; managing six departments;

    2) Executive Director of Resource Development at the Kansas City Museum- designing a $250 million campaign; and

    3) Associate Vice President and Consultant at IDC, a NJ-based consulting firm serving large health care and educational institutions in fundraising campaigns.

    She is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE).  Laurie assisted in teaching a graduate management consulting course at Emory University’s Goizueta School of Business. She has been a keynote speaker for CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education), Girls Incorporated, The American Lung Association, JAA (Jesuit Advancement Administrators) PSI (Philanthropic Services for Institutions), American Nurses Association, American Academy of Family Physicians and others. She is a graduate of Boston College with a degree in Philosophy and participated in the Executive Fellows Business Education program at Rockhurst University.

James Kirkegaard

Co-Owner & Principal

Jim focuses on a holistic approach to critical thinking, integration of resources, and planning- always seeking innovative and effective solutions to recurring problems.

  • Jim has 36 years of experience designing business strategies, operating systems, and sustainable business models for domestic and international organizations, with a background in finance. He was employed by The Coca-Cola Company and Coca-Cola Enterprises for ten years, as well as other fortune 100 companies, directing large infrastructure and technology projects.  Among other things, Jim led The Coca-Cola’s first pilot project on distributed learning in 1999 and 2000, managing cross functional teams, spanning multiple countries with positive financial impact. He served as Controller for The Manitowoc Leasing Company, serving maquiladora plants in Mexico and the US-based parent company. Jim has served worldwide nonprofit organizations with NPL Impact Agency including, but not limited to, The Children’s Hospital of Costa Rica, The National Geographic Society, Rotarians for Family Health and Aides Prevention and Hopital Sacre Coeur in Haiti.

    During his career, Jim has worked in over 50 countries and is particularly adept at working across diverse teams and cultures.  His versatility allows him to design and implement measurable returns, whether they be financial or social. One of his current focuses is helping corporations to actualize their Corporate Social Responsibility platforms by way of connecting them to impactful global charities. Jim is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and graduate of Washburn University with a degree in business and accounting. He also studied at The University of Copenhagen and Loyola University of New Orleans.

Laurie and Jim draw on continued expertise of a multi-disciplinary team across the business, government and nonprofit sectors with expertise in a wide array of  disciplines. Many of the NPL team members have worked together for over 20 years.
